![]() Joshua 1:8 “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. Mark 12:30 “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” – ( What verses in the Bible talk about love?)ġ6. James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”ġ5. “Myths which are believed in tend to become true.14. Now I leave you with a quote from George Orwell: So, when you hear something that sounds pretty unbelievable, try and use whatever “percentage” you can muster, and do that critical thinking thing. However, that much lose of brain functioning would be worse than having a severe stroke on top of having Parkinson’s Disease … not a desirable situation to be sure.Įven “inactive” nerve cells – the majority at any given instant – are working, in that they are receiving pulses sent from the firing nerve cells. When contemplating the 10 percent idea in terms of being the only part we use at all, that would mean the rest could be scrapped (leaving you with gray matter the size of a sheep’s brain), and we’d all be fine – even lose over two pounds of unnecessary fat. “It may have been William James, who wrote in 1908: ‘We are making use of only a small part of our possible mental and physical resources.'”Īs for the James’ idea, we all know people – even ourselves on “off” days – who don’t seem to be “playing with a full deck of cards,” as the saying goes.Īnd Einstein and Flourens were making observations that it is unlikely we use our whole brains all of the time – observations backed up by modern research.īut, seriously, to someone like Einstein, it probably looked like the masses were operating with Pentium 1 Processors, while he was already packing the latest model, with an upgrade. “The 10% statement may have been started with a misquote of Albert Einstein or the misinterpretation of the work of Pierre Flourens in the 1800s. There is no definitive answer likely from several sources (and definitely spread in the fashion of an urban myth) but these are the best theories I’ve come across (found at ): Why would it do all this putting-on-of-mass if there was no point to it? It only makes sense that, as we mature, we use more of our brains, and always more than 10%, unless, of course, in the event of brain damage or other circumstances. The human brain weighs approximately three pounds (about 1350 grams), whereas a newborn’s weighs close to 350-400 grams so, the “average” human’s brain increases in weight by 3.5 times. This area actually “flips” images, which have already been encoded and turned upside down, right side up again and “rationalizes” what you are viewing at the base level. Human brains are composed of many different structures, with varying densities and, if removed, appearances and textures.Īlthough we don’t use all of our brain, all of the time, we do use most of it, most of the time and certain areas are utilized – more – for certain processes.įor example, your vision – the shapes, colors and what not that you can identify in the light spectrum and scope of size – is processed in the rear area of your skull, at the occipital lobe. The brain would have to be solvent, the same throughout for this to even possibly be true. It is really a very strange idea – and amazing in its proliferation – like one big, horrible urban myth.
